We took 5 colors and 3 sizes to lay all this out going 4 different directions. The framework was super cool to create and we had no less fun installing flooring. To make this even more creative and keep it from looking like the display you would find at your local retailer, we decided to continue the patterns transitioning thru elevations and down the stairs. We inlaid creative patterns in separate sections, each section was of a different color and a different size or combination. When a section repeated, it followed the same trend for that material. The 4" boards angle and cascade down the stairs where each fascia piece was crafted from 6" boards of the same color and mitered on the sides to match all the angles. We couldn't propose a northstar, celtic knot or "area rug" design to our clients so we brought everything original. Focusing on bold, colorful and 100% creative ways to transform the typical use of materials. The pergola and privacy screens were created using the same concept of colors. We told ourselves there was a way to win awards without having to curve boards and create circles.. I hope we were right?
This steel, stone and concrete project brings the absolute sense of everlasting construction. Built on Steel I beams, TJI Joists, 3/4" subfloor and a full wrap of 45 mil epdm liner. This project is rated to hold multiple vehicles and was constructed specifically to hold weight. There was no way, wood, composite or any other common materials could do. The goal was afterall, "everlasting". A re-bar cage reinforces the 4" solid slab of stamped concrete, warming your feet with a glycol radiant floor heating system. The all steel-framed staircase is completed with the same bedded, stamped concrete treads. The custom welded iron railings bring clean horizontal lines adding a simple modern look to this imposing feature of a deck. Stone wrapped posts and fascia extend the house veneer along with the solid slab stamped concrete outdoor kitchen complete with pellet grill, pizza oven and fire bowl. Under counter and under deck lighting make this project glow in the night after family enjoys the shade under the custom fabricated steel and stone pergola with reverse stairstep rafter details. "Unique" doesn't even begin to describe this formidable project. Free of monotonous curved composite deck boards, this project epitomizes originality and craftsmanship.
This once in a lifetime project, is a concept unlike any other and the 1st of its kind. This log slice deck encorporates a congregation of exclusive ideas all wrapped up into a true work of art. 10 tons of Rounded river boulders set into groupings and pedestals thru cement foundations ensure none will ever move. Glue lam beams support a SYP frame that hugs the boulder outcroppings thru multiple elevations and supports a subfloor coated with a rubbarized membrane. 120 gallons of exterior grade UV-resistant, non-yellowing epoxy encapsulates 600lft of 100,000hr LED rope lights gleaming from beneath multiple varieties of natural log rings. It would be a dishonor to judge this deck without realizing we got lucky enough to find "Black Walnut" along with Peach, Olive, Birch, beetle kill lodgepole pine and many others. All flooring is affixed in an encapsulation of epoxy, planed and sanded to a smooth finish showcasing the amazing variety of colors, shapes and natural ring designs. To keep it modern, RBG lighting on all elevations change colors and create the appearance that the deck floats without a frame. The wood ring concept and lighting that glows from below are both first of its kind!
So magnificent is the near random pattern that one cannot be in awe of its colorful beauty. (9) days to plane and tape joists led us to the rules.. No color was to touch itself, no board could break on the same joist and every bay required at least 2 boards. 10,000 countersunk screws, 10,000 screw plugs later, we end up where every section of this 1,300 sqft deck could be its own pattern and every section is worthy to be its own deck. Every bay of color between the borders are beautifully balanced and visually appealing. Never before since the introduction of multi-width boards has it been achieved to use every size along with every color to create a restoration to the extent of what we ended up with here. Stone wraps the new corner columns and iron railings complete the project with a final touch of elegance.
